Thank you for sharing these legislative updates, particularly HB 571 concerning firearms and courthouses.
I am curious as to why you included the Asset Forfeiture Transparency Act in this list. How would the proposed bill affect chancery practice? (I am a student and legal intern, and I may be missing the obvious.)
I could say I included it just to see if anyone was paying attention (you were!), but that would be a lie. It snuck past me.
In the Termination of Parental Rights bill, I wonder if defining “child” as someone under 18 is problematic. Maybe I’m missing something so this is a a silly question, but if it passes, could that definition preclude contested terminations/adoptions for minors between 18 and 21 or for adult children?
I am always on guard when I see something titled “Church Protection Act” so tell me if I’m completely off track or is Gipson trying to extend sovereign immunity to church security guards? This is the same guy who would put guns in courthouses and now he wants them in church? Fetish much?
