How Will You Measure Your Life?
December 18, 2015 § 2 Comments
Lawyers are driven to accomplish. We are ambitious and goal-driven. Sometimes in pursuing lofty goals, though, we can lose sight of the opportunities we have to make a difference. The importance of making a difference in your own little slice of the universe is something about which I have posted here previously.
Here is a Ted Talk with Harvard Business School Professor Clay Christensen that offers some insight into what really counts and what will ultimately be the measure of your life.

Judge Primeaux: I hate to think I am so old that my friends are sending me articles about measuring my life. But I AM old. I stay busy and am determined to be kind and helpful. As of June 6, I will have successfully practiced law for fifty years. I plan to go to the Bar convention to get my 50 Year pin. I plan to buy my friend and law school classmate, James Tucker, a celebratory adult beverage and enjoy his company. I hope I will see other old friends there and that they will join my celebration. I do not measure my life by money. I have been saved by Jesus the Christ and claim Him as My Savior and that is the most important thing to me. I know Jesus will measure me and find me wanting, but will get me into heaven just because I trust in Him. Everything mortal will be lost. I hope to spend eternity with Jesus and my family and friends. There are no pockets in shrouds and no armored cars in funeral processions. I hope to have a very cheap funeral and have asked Louise to take those at my burial to a party with some of the money saved on my funeral!
Jim
I hope I am around to enjoy a cold one in your honor.
