Duccio“Lifting him up, then, he showed him, in a single glance, every realm in the world. And the devil said: ‘All their power and all their glory I will bestow on you, since they are entrusted to me and to those I bestow them on. Bow to me and it is all yours.”  —  Luke 4: 5-7 [Emphasis added]

“It is astonishing what the devil says: I have all power, it has been given to me, and I am the one to hand it on — submit, and it is yours. Jesus of course does not submit, and sends the devilcumpower to Hell. Not for a moment, however, does Jesus contradict the devil. He does not question that the devil holds all power, nor that this power has been given to him, nor that he, the devil, gives it to whom he pleases. This is a point which is easily overlooked. By his silence Jesus recognizes power that is established as “devil” and defines Himself as The Powerless. He who cannot accept this view on power cannot look at establishments through the spectacle of the Gospel.”  —  Ivan Illich

“Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we’re looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn’t test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed, and love of power.”  —  PJ O’Rourke

Later in the Gospel, Jesus tells Pilate, “My kingdom is not of this world.” Vote your conciense, but do not attempt to put the imprimatur of God Almighty on political decisions/policy. Having a “Christian” nation is like having a “Christian” goldfish!
As far as a return of America to God, like the good old days, someone remind me when that was. Was it when we denied African Americans the right to vote, assasinated their leaders, and lynched those that offended us? Or was it when we massacred the native Americans, infected them with smallpox, stole their land and broke our treaties? Or was it when we began this Republic and grew it on the backs and efforts of slaves? When exactly was our country “Christian”? I keep hearing about returning our nation to God, just can’t define the period those folks are talking about!

      Psalm 33:12
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Even some of our forefathers despised slavery and even freed there own. Saying that Black Americans have leaders is in it self selective segregation and is not what there spokesman’s envisioned. As tragic as it is it takes time to change the hearts of stupid people and this country is a work in progress ever evolving (That would be microevolution) and I believe this nation is only a Christian Nation as long as We The People are Christians other wise this nation is a soulless body much like a Corporation that can neither be for or against God, it can only be stirred by the people who’s job it is to lead.

Benjamin Franklin: “They who give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

I liked that Ilich quote enough to google up the source.
